In its sustained efforts for the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has urged the Chief Minister among others, to verify driving licenses, domicile certificates, electoral rolls of all constituencies before the Lok Sabha election next year; to identify illegal migrants and foreigners who settled in various districts of the State after 1980 and delete them from the electoral rolls of Manipur and to set up illegal immigrants check posts at Mao Gate, Jiribam and Moreh Gate.
In a memorandum, the JCILPS also urged the Chief Minister to depute a High Power Committee, to be chaired by the Chief Minister which would include Home Minister, other Ministers and State presidents of political parties with the sole objective of obtaining necessary clearance from the Govt of India.
Further, the High Power Committee should be deputed to meet Prime Minister and Union Home Minister well before the forthcoming Parliamentary Session in August and obtain clearance from the Government of India, the JCILPS representation urged.
The JCILPS also offered to drop its proposed mass movement on the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar after getting a positive response from the CM.
