Remanded to judicial custody

Imphal, August 27 2021:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West remanded three persons who were arrested by a team of NAB Manipur and Singjamei police while transporting spurious COVID-19 live saving drugs to foreign country Myanmar on August 22 to judicial custody.
The accused Mohammad Feroz Khan (30) s/o Md Heffajuddin, Imran Khan (22) s/o (L) Abbdullah both from Moreh Ward no 5 Muslim Nagar Mayai Leikai, Tengnoupal and Subhamkumar Anand (23) s/o Rabindra Prasad Gupta of Kathiar Pratap Ganj, Bihar at present - BT Road Roopmahal Tank was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West by a team of Singjamei Police after the completion of 5 days police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that attempts were made to arrest the main accused of the case Guddu of Moreh Namphalong by sending a message to OC Moreh.
The IO also submitted that accused persons are involved in smuggling COVID-19 vaccine and Remdesivir drug in nexus with Guddu which is a serious offence against humanity.
The defense counsel of Mohammad Feroz Khan and Imran Khan submitted that the accused did not know the medicine items which they carried were prohibited and the duo was hired by Subhamkumar Anand.
It was further submitted that Imran Khan is presently an educational secretary of Manipur Muslim Council Moreh and an active member of COVID-19 Task Force Moreh.
The defence counsel then prayed for their bail.
The defense counsel of Subhamkumar Anand also submitted that the charges levelled against the accused are fabricated as no incriminating articles were recovered from his possession.
On the other hand, the APP submitted that if the accused are given bail the investigation will be hampered as the main accused is still absconding.
The Court, after hearing both the defence council and the APP remanded the accused to judicial custody till September 10 .
