A former Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) cadre was shot at on his left thigh by suspected ZUF cadres at Goitang Chingthak Khoupum in Tamenglong district at around 5 pm yesterday.
The victim, identified as Gedeon (25) s/o Jainthoungam of Taosianzang village Khopum, is undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences hospital.
According to family members, as Gedeon was returning home with some of his friends from Satu village after playing a volleyball match, he was stopped by some armed persons, suspected to be ZUF cadres at Taosianzang village and took him to Goitang Chingthak Khoupum.
The armed persons asked him to return to ZUF camp as their cadre.
As Gedeon refused to go with them, they left him there after pumping a bullet on his left thigh, they said.
Family members and villagers, who came there to trace Gedeon's whereabouts, found him lying injured.
They immediately rushed Gedeon to JNIMS Hospital.
Family members said that Gedeon left ZUF on heath ground a few years back and he is leading a normal life at his home.
In the past one year, ZUF has been constantly asking Gedeon to return to their fold, they added.
