Imphal, January 24 2015 :
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has extended warm greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of the birth centenary of Rani Gaidinliu which coincides with the Republic Day.
Urging all concerned to participate in the birth anniversary observance of Rani Gaidinliu, a statement issued by the ZUF said the Front would observe the occasion in a grand manner at its Ghqs/Dilung and at different base camps including camp Zion and pay fitting homage to the legendary woman of 20th century born of the Zeliangrong Naga country.
Rani Gaidinliu was a staunch follower of Haipou Jadonang Malangmei and leader of the Naga Raj movement from 1927 to 1932 .
She was a veteran freedom fighter against the British imperialism in the South East Asia, who was sentenced to life imprisonment who was though released by India after Independence.
Ranima, in the later part of her life raised the demand for a common homeland for the Zeliangrong people and other welfare packages for the Zeliangrong Naga community.
But the Government of India failed to consider the demand.
Ranima even expressed her desire to return all her awards in her resentment against the Government of India which failed to concede her demand, it said.
It is now high time, the Government of India concedes to fulfill the dream of Rani Gaidinliu instead of all personal honours being accorded to her, the ZUF said.
