CPI State unit proposes Dr Nara as party candidate for LS Poll

CPI National Headquarters has received a proposal from the CPI Manipur State unit to field Dr Moirangthem Nara as CPI candidate for the Lok Sabha elections in Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency.
This was stated by CPI National Council Secretary and veteran leader AB Bardhan at the 66th foundation day of CPI Manipur State Council held today at Irabot Memorial Hall, Challou.
It is said that the CPI Manipur State Council was set up on August 23, 1948 under the leadership of Hijam Irabot.
AB Bardhan said that Dr Nara has been proposed as CPI candidate in Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency for the Lok Sabha election likely to be held in early part of 2014 .
Though the proposal sent by the CPI Manipur State Council has been discussed, no final decision has been adopted.
Subsequent upon the proposal, CPI leaders talked with leaders of other political parties with the exception of Congress and BJP at Hotel Imphal this morning.
The CPI leaders appealed to other parties to support Dr Nara in the Lok Sabha election.
"Hopefully, many political parties would consider the CPI appeal positively", Bardhan stated.
Dr Nara secured more than two lakh votes in the last Lok Sabha election though he could not win the Parliamentary seat.
Claiming that forthcoming Lok Sabha election would be a major political battle, Bardhan called upon all party workers and sympathisers to interact with people at the grassroots level and ensure that Dr Nara wins the Lok Sabha seat this time.
In case Dr Nara wins, many major issues of Manipur would certainly find its audience in the Parliament, Bardhan asserted.
It is time for Manipur to see change of guards at the helm of political affairs by dethroning O Ibobi.
To wrest both the Lok Sabha seats of Manipur, political parties need to vanquish Congress party.
Establishment of a united front of all political parties baring Congress and BJP would herald a new dawn in the political landscape of Manipur.
Due to continue down-slide in the value of India rupee during the UPA regime, the country is now facing a serious economic crisis.
In the meantime, prices of all essential commodities have skyrocketed multiplying woes of the common man.
Issues of different kinds are now abound in India and almost all Parliament sessions are marred with ruckus.
Even though the National Food Security Bill was tabled in the Parliament, the Bill could not be deliberated because of unceasing commotion.
Political parties in power are infatuated with corruption.
While some people have become millionaires overnight, the vast majority have been enduring extreme misery, Bardhan said.
It is now in the hands of the people to replace the existing system.
CPI has been standing steadfast against the demand for integration of Naga inhabited areas under a single administrative unit.
Questioning whether the Government of India pays least attention to the people's outcry against loss of Manipur's territory on account of border fencing along Indo-Myanmar border, AB Bardhan asserted people's movement alone would not suffice.
It demands toppling of the UPA Government.
Former Minister N Mangi asserted that it was the Congress party which altered the boundary of Manipur.
It was during Congress rule that Kabow Valley was gifted to Myanmar.
Even today, the Congress Government has been donating Manipur's territory to Myanmar.
Alleging that the Congress Government has failed to safeguard Manipur's territorial integrity, Mangi said that the three Congress MPs elected from the State have become mute.
He sought support to CPI candidate Dr Nara in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
CPI State secretary Dr M Nara, former Minister Pheiroijam Parijat and other party leaders were also present at the function where simple gifts were presented to aged comrades of the party.
