Ukhrul , June 23 2011:
Lamenting over acute shortage of infrastructure and staff in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of the district, the Ukhrul District Lawyers' Association (UDLA) has strongly resented the continued apathy of the State Government inspite of numerous representatives and reminders submitted in this regard.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Advocate GA Shimray of the Association pointed out that the only Ambassador car bearing registration no.MN-IK/1250 issued for the court of CJM, Ukhrul has been without a driver for the last 12 years.
Asserting that the Government of Manipur is very much aware of the standing order of the Supreme Court that all the judicial officers must be provided vehicle by the Government, the Advocate alleged that all other CJMs in Manipur have been provided vehicles with drivers with exception to CJM, Ukhrul.
He further said that all the junior judicial officers posted in Imphal have been entitled to vehicles with drivers.
But the CJM posted at Ukhrul, which is 84 kms away from the State capital has been denied the same facility without any justification.
This is nothing but a simple case of discrimination, Advocate Shimray contended, while cautioning that such prejudice against the judicial officers posted in the hills may have serious repercussion if early remedial measures is not taken up.
