Chandel, April 22 2021:
A team of Kuki Chiefs Association (KCA) Khengjoi SubDivision and Kuki Students Organization (KSO) Khengjoy Block along with media persons carried out inspection visit to check the condition and requirements of villages in Khengjoy Sub division in Chandel district today.
During the visit, the team came across that 2X1 MVA 33/11 Sub Station in Joupi, constructed under RGGVY Scheme and inaugurated by Power Minister Th Biswajit in October 2017 is now operated by caretakers after repairing the machines.
Jangkhulim, a villager of Joupi and a caretaker of the substation told media persons that there are two 5MVA transformers, two 33 KVA Incomer Panel in which one is not working as of now and two other panels are not working and have not been repaired till date.
When the sub station started functioning, an executive engineer of Chandel engaged him and three other persons from the surrounding villages as the caretakers by giving them some money monthly.
Since then 4 of them are taking care of the Sub Station on a rotational basis, he added.
He further stated that only one panel of 11 KVA is used for supplying electricity and there is no point for GO cutting so when one line is not functioning they have to take off the jumper by climbing the post at any point of time.
Though repeated complaints have been made to set GO, to repair the tripping coil of the panel, to install meter readers and to repair the DC charger however the same have not been repaired till date, he added.
Narrating the ordeals they have faced when there is power cut in the area such as indifference attitude of the villagers and not having proper knowledge about the various technicalities he appealed to the Government and authorities concerned to provide the care takers with a regular post considering the hardships faced by them.
Representative of Kuki Chiefs Association, Khengjoi Sub Division Thangkhomang Haokip expressed concern that electricity staff are not coming to the Sub station regularly instead care takers are operating it.
Therefore he urged the Government and officials concerned to send mechanics and staff to repair the various non functional machines and panels of the Sub Station at the earliest for the smooth functioning of the Sub Station and in the interest of the villagers.
