Youth found dead with torture marks

Imphal, March 22 2017:
A 25 year old youth was found killed after he was apparently subjected to severe torture at Heingang, Imphal East district.
The deceased has been identified as Sapam Ranjit alias Amuba (25) s/o Iboyaima of Heingang Awang Leikai but staying at Achanbigei Awang Leikai.
Passers-by came across the body of Ranjit on the road leading to Leikha Mongjam of Heingang Awang Leikai this morning.
Bruises and injury marks were seen on different parts of his body including head.
After investigation of the spot where Ranjit was found dead by a team of the Manipur Police, Forensic Science Laboratory, Heingang Police have deposited the corpse at JNIMS mortuary.
Meanwhile, a joint action committee has been constituted after holding a public meeting at Achanbigei against the killing of Ranjit.
The meeting resolved to urge the authority concerned to book and punish the culprits within 48 hours.
The meeting also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.
A similar public meeting was also held at Heingang where another JAC was constituted.
The second JAC has also urged the authority concerned to book the culprits and award them befitting punishment.
On the other hand, a case has been registered at Heingang police station in connection with the murder.
Moreover, five suspects have been pulled up for questioning, informed a source.
Meanwhile, a large number of Heingang people marched to Heingang police station demanding immediate arrest of the killers.
Following police assurance that the killers would be identified by 9 am tomorrow and necessary legal action would be initiated, the enraged people were somewhat pacified.
Nonetheless, people still remain gathered in front of the police station till the time of filing this report.
