Calls for peace mark Eid greetings

Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency MP Dr T Meinya and MPCC (I) president and Home Minister Gaikhangam have joined a host of officials and personalities in greeting the Muslim community on the eve of Eidul-Fitre.
In a message Dr T Meinya prayed that Eidul-Fitre usher in peace and communal harmony amongst the different communities settled in Manipur.
Praying that the festival usher in peace and communal harmony amongst the people, Gaikhangam said that this is the right time for everyone to shed narrow, communal outlook and live together as one.
Chairperson of Manipur State Minorities Commission A Halim Choudhury has also conveyed warm and heartfelt greetings to the people of Manipur on the auspicious of Eidul-Fitre, to be celebrated tomorrow.
In his message, the Chairperson urged the people of the State to retain the characteristics of modesty, nobility and calm as well as promote peaceful co-existence amongst various communities.
IGAR (S) Maj Gen UK Gurung and all ranks of Assam Rifles have also extended warm greetings and sincere goodwill to the people of Manipur.
"May this festival herald an era of peace, progress and prosperity in the region and enhance the spirit of unity, cohesiveness and brotherhood amongst the warm and friendly people of all the communities in the State of Manipur," the Major General was quoted in a PRO IGAR (S) release.
GOC Red Shield Division Maj gen Binoy Poonnen has also conveyed warm greetings and sincere goodwill to the people of Manipur, specially the Muslim brethren on the auspicious occasion of Eidul-fitre.
According to a PIB (DW) release, the GOC expressed confidence that the festival would herald peace and prosperity in the State.
Meanwhile, 30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector organised an Iftar Party at Chingmeirong today to celebrate the last day of the Holy Ramadan month.
Invitees from the varied walks of life joined Muslim brethren in breaking the Ramadan fast, according to the PRO release.
Commandant 30 Assam Rifles welcoming the guests stated that the idea of purification and austerity behind the fasting ritual is beyond the folds of Islam.
In fact the focus on core values, noble thoughts and goodwill during the Ramadan month are beyond the religious and the spiritual practices and extended to the idea of universal solidarity and relationship based on peace, he said.
More than 150 people including dignitaries from Kairang area were present at the occasion.
