RTI on AG in doldrums

Imphal, May 19 2017:
A person who filed an RTI seeking
information on the proposed appointment of Advocate General of
Manipur has been running after various Departments to get the
information sought.
Sources said the RTI was filed online on April 29 last
seeking details of the proposed appointment of the Advocate
General of the State, which has been lying vacant after the
formation of the BJP-led coalition Government.
At first, the person filed the RTI in the Legislative Department
but failed to get any information.
The applicant was
asked to approach the public authority concerned under the
State Government.
Accordingly, the applicant filed the RTI in the Cabinet
Secretariat on May 5.The application was transferred to another
public authority on May 9 .
The applicant then filed the RTI in the Department of Legal Affairs
on the same day.
Again the application was transferred to yet
another public authority on May 12.Finally the RTI was received
by the Department of Justice but no document or information has
been provided to the applicant.
It may be mentioned that High Court
Bar Association Manipur (HCBAM), All Manipur Bar
Association (AMBA), Students' Union of LMS Law College and
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) had staged protests against
the proposed appointment of a lawyer from outside the State as the
Advocate General of Manipur.
The State Government has not yet issued any official notification
on the appointment till date.
