Imphal, March 19 2019:
The People Action Committee against the brutal killing of Pravish Chanam has strongly condemned Chief Minister N Biren for failing to take the case seriously despite giving his assurance in the past Assembly session to urge the UP Government to hand over the case to the CBI and further accused the CM of working under the command of the UP Government.
Speaking to media persons at the residence of (L) Pravish Chanam at Uripok
Achom Leikai today afternoon, Laimayum Pishu Sharma, convener of the PAC, informed that the PAC has handed over a memorandum to MPCC president Gaikhangam so that it can be forwarded to AICC president, Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Manipur.
He also appealed to Rahul Gandhi to address the case in the best interest of the public and to deliver swift justice to the family members and the people of Manipur and the North East in general.
Pishu claimed that CM N Biren has failed to take any positive measures, even though he assured otherwise in the Assembly.
He also alleged that the CM is misleading and diverting the people from the issue by giving different types of statement and clarification.
It has come to light that the State Government has failed to take up any tangible steps even though an inquiry report regarding the death of Pravish Chanam was submitted to Biren by ADGP Pramod Asthana, he added.
There is high indication of the involvement of high profile people behind the brutal killing of Pravish as the final report of the case taken up by UP police has been submitted before the Chief Judicial Magistrate concerned stating that the investigation failed to make any arrest in connection with the case and the case was disposed by Court recently, which is extremely unfortunate, he claimed.
On January 29 last year, the Home Department of UP issued a notification that the matter had been forwarded for investigation by the CBI then just two months before the final report was submitted before the authority concerned, CBI Lucknow branch, on September 20 last year, communicated that the matter is not fit enough to be handled by the CBI as the Government in UP had well equipped investigating agencies to deal with such matter, Pishu continued and asked why, despite knowing such reply from CBI Lucknow branch, the State Government decided to remain silent till today.
The PAC did not impose any kind of bandh or total shutdown considering the hardship which will be faced by public but now, owing to the disappointing failure of the Government, the PAC might take up intensified agitation, he warned.
He also alleged that the State Government's failure to pressure the UP Government clearly shows that Biren is under it.
On the other hand, Th Apabi, general secretary of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, stated that the failure of the State Government to bring justice clearly shows that the Chief Minister is a person who can't keep his words.
The CM has betrayed the people of the State who have been demanding justice for people from Manipur who were killed or died mysteriously outside the State.
The Government is here to protect the people, safeguard the people.
If the Government fails to deliver justice, then who is going to protect the people, she asked, strongly condemning the discriminatory actions of the Central Government as well as the irresponsibility of the UP and Manipur Governments.
