Visiting Seri farms in districts was an eye opening experience: Awangbow Newmai

Sericulture Minister Awangbow Newmai today said that his recent visits to the Seri farms in different districts have been an eye-opening experience with regards to the ground reality of the hardships and struggles being faced by Seri beneficiaries(farmers) and the vast potential of Seri farming in the State.
He also stated that the outcome of his direct in-teraction with the Seri beneficiaries along with department officials will help in a betterment of existing schemes.
Informing that he has shared his views to the de-partment officials, he hoped that the department will find appropriate means to give more extensive help to the Seri beneficiaries despite the limitation of resources.
The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the 'beneficiaries orientation training programme under ISDP (valley), distribution of equipment to beneficiaries under ISDP (valley and hill) & RKVY and award distribution to best performing officials and beneficiaries' at the Project Management Complex, Sangaipat Imphal East.
As part of the function, awards were distributed for the best performing district Sericulture Officer (Valley and Hill) to two officers; dedicated service rendered in department certificates to two persons and best circle In-charges and best-performing beneficiaries to eleven individuals each.
He said there is a high demand for silk in the State and the climatic condition is suitable for Seri farming.
Heikham Dingo Singh, Chairman, Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, speaking as the guest of honour, said that it is an honour to attend the function as his Constituency is also actively engaged in Seri related works.
He said the visit by the Sericulture Minister in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal (last month) was a significant event as the Minister led the field visit along with the circle officers interacting directly with the beneficiaries noting down their grievances.
He said now it is the duty and responsibility of Cabinet colleagues to extend all possible help in the development and progress of the department.
He lauded the department for encouraging the officials and beneficiaries.
Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, Minister CAF & PD and Law, in his presidential speech, said that the Sericulture Department is an important department which can provide livelihood and source of income for the people, especially in a State like Manipur.
He said that improving the department and motivating the officials and beneficiaries are equally important.
The function was also attended by Nidhi Kesarwani, Commissioner.
