Free echocardiography screening camp held

State Health Society Mission, in association with the Sky Hospital and Research Centre organized the first State level free screening of Echocardiography (ECG) health camp at State Health Society, Medical Directorate Imphal today under the Rastriya Bal Swasthiya Karykram (RBSK) .
Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is an initiative aiming at early identification and early intervention for children from birth to 18 years to cover 4 'D's ie, defects at birth, deficiencies, diseases, development delays including disability.
Altogether, 47 children were screened.
The health camp was conducted to determine confirmation of congenial heart disease by Rastriya Bal Swasthiya Karykram (RBSK) mobile health team.
Under this scheme, early screening and management of defects at birth, deficiencies, diseases and development delays in children from birth to 18 years of age are given free treatment.

Medical Director O Ibomcha told media persons in an interaction that the camp mainly focused on children with heart disease particularly children with congenital heart diseases.
These patients will be operated free of cost under this mission.
So far 13 children are operated as per the house to house finding of RBSK mobile team.
Various nutritional deficiencies affecting the preschool children ranging from 4 per cent to 70 per cent, developmental delays are common in early childhood affecting at least 10 percent of the children, he added.
These delays if not intervened timely may lead to permanent disabilities including cognitive, hearing or vision impairment.
Also, there are group of diseases common in children like dental caries, rheumatic heart disease, reactive airways diseases etc.
Early detection and management diseases including deficiencies bring added value in preventing these conditions to progress to its more severe and debilitating form and thereby reducing hospitalization, he said.
This medical mission was launched for improvement of children's health in the State and will continue in future.
Steps are taken up to open mission centre at block levels, schools and Anganwadi centre in every district in the State.
