Imphal, December 14 2013 :
Expressing grave concern on crumbling infrastructure affecting academic atmosphere of DM college of Science, Students' Union secretary Pradeep Kumar Laishram suggested that college authorities as well as Government of Manipur do the needful at the earliest.
Speaking to newspersons at the Union office today, Pradeep, in addition to highlighting various infrastructure problem afflicting the College, expressed that to enable the college preserve its sanctity as one of the reputed higher educational institutions of the State every section of the society refrain from seeking financial or material donation from the college for any event.
Reminding that the slightest disturbance caused to the college environment might pose threat and hinder academic pursuit of the students, he opined that leaving the college authorities to tackle non-academic issues do not reflect repeated assurances by those at the helm of affairs that the Government is committed to streamlining the State's education system.
With the roads within the campus lying in pitiable condition students are notably reluctant to attend class during rainy seasons, said the secretary.
Proposing that security arrangement be initiated by the Government at the earliest, Pradeep also noted that dilapidated infrastructure including the porous eastern gate and crumbling boundary wall/fencing need to be repaired without further delay.
The secretary also urged authority concerned to upgrade library infrastructure by ensuring adequate stocking of compatible literatures and modern equipment such as computers.
Cautioning students not conforming to dress-code and prescribed attendance norms that they might regret in case appropriate action is initiated, he further insisted individuals found indulging in any activities considered socially objectionable within college campus would be dealt with accordingly.
