Imphal, March 14 2014 :
The Awang Sekmai Nongthonband Youth Club has threatened to close the inter-village road connecting NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur highway) to the Sekmai LPG bottling plant in case the same road is not repaired within the current month.
Showing the worn out condition of the IVR to a team of media persons this afternoon, the club's president Maharabam Opendro said that the LPG bottling plant was commissioned in 2007 .
Before this, the IVR was black topped in 2002.Since then, no repairing or maintenance work has been done on the IVR.
So far, the bottling plant has seen three managers.
Every time, a new manager is appointed, the club submits a representation appealing to repair the IVR but to no avail.
Around 30 LPG bullet tankers move to and fro every day on the IVR in addition to a number of retailer trucks.
This is the main factor for the fast deterioration of the IVR, Opendro said.
The IVR is the key link for the surrounding villages but since the LPG plant came up in the area, it is now filled with potholes.
Apart from posing health hazards, the pathetic condition of the IVR has become a cause of frequent road accidents.
In case repairing work of the IVR is not started within the current month either by the India Oil Corporation or the State Government, the road would be closed, Opendro added.
