Sadar Hills, August 12 2016 :
The Kuki National Front (Nehlun) today announced its decision to boycott the Indian Independence Day celebration in all Kuki dominated areas and imposed a total bandh in all districts, State and National Highways from midnight of August 14 till the sunset of August 15 .
In a statement information and publicity secretary of the outfit Gogou Vaiphei said that it will separately boycott the Independence Day with its might and strength apart from the UNLFWESEA or the collective bandh called by North East insurgents groups.
He continued that the Independence Day boycott will continue until and unless Government of Manipur paves the way for creation of 'Kukiland'.
The outfit said that the demand for Kuki State is permissible under Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India.
The armed struggle has been taken up since the Government had sidelined the peaceful Kuki National movement initiated by Kuki National Army way back in the 1960s for political rights of the Kuki people.
It also said that it is a known fact that the Kukis were divided by the British prior to Independence into three countries without consulting their will, thus making them the smallest Nation in their respective settled countries, that is India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
"Therefore, we ourselves should sacrifice our life to regain the lost territory of Kuki inhabited areas and transform them into one Nation and one administration by crushing the Government of India and the provisional boundaries of the tri-Nations of South East Asia," it added.
The outfit further said that the total bandh will start from midnight of August 14 and will be strictly enforced in all districts, State and National Highways till sunset of August 15 .
The outfit also urged all the organizations, institutions and individuals to stay indoors for their own safety including cultural troupes while adding that a special task force has been formed to initiate action mainly at Kangpokpi, Saitu-Gamphazol, Saikul and Island block of Sadar Hills.
While urging all to cooperate to avoid any unwanted incident it also warned that violators will be responsible for anything that befalls them.
