Nature camp for children begins at Thoubal

Thoubal, March 12 2013:
A four day nature camp for the children of Thoubal district organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) Imphal in association with Social Development Association (SDA) Khangabok with the support of National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has kick started from today at Khangabok Sorok Wangma Primary School, Thoubal.
L Hemabati Devi, member of ward No 7 of Kangabok Pt I GP was the chief guest of the
inaugural function.
L Manao Singh, headmaster, Khangabok Sorok Wangma Primary School, L Dinachandra Singh, Senior Scientific Officer, MASTEC graced the function as president and guests of honour respectively.
In the keynote speech, L Somorjit Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, Imphal college said that the main objectives of the camps is to educate the children about the nature in an interesting way through various components like songs, plays, games, lectures, field trips, sample collection and observation in their life.
He believed that such training camp will have a far reaching impact on the minds of the future citizens of the nation about nature conservation and better environment.
Under the catalysation and support of NCSTC, DST, GOI, MASTEC is going to organise two nature camps for the districts of Thoubal and Bishnupur.
The Bishnupur camp will be organised during March 21 to 24 at Manipur Nature Cure and Yoga Hospital, Ngaikhong Khullen with the local support of Community Development Organisation (CDO) Ngaikhong Khullen.
As part of the nature camp of today, Dr O Joychandra Singh, assistant professor, JNIMS and Dr Ningombam Romabati Devi, assistant professor, department of zoology, Imphal college delivered lectures on 'Health, Hygiene and Sanitation, identification and classification of animals' as resource persons.
Students from different schools of Thoubal and local persons took part in the camp.
