Micro Spices Processing Unit inaugurated

Micro Spices Processing Unit based on solar energy was inaugurated at Balongdai village, Nungba block yesterday by M Luikham, Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong district.
The inaugural function was also graced by AC Srivastava, General Manager, NABARD Manipur Regional Office, Ng Joykumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Central Agriculture University (CAU) and Kajaigai, SDO, Nungba along with officials of DIC, Tribal Affairs and Hills, KVK Tamenglong and DRDA, said a statement issued by NABARD, Manipur Regional Office.
Speaking at the occasion, M Luikham stressed on the importance of women self help groups and utilizing the resources through new technology such as solar dryer to enhance the production and reduce the working capital requirement in an enterprise.
Various initiatives of NABARD in the district were highlighted by NABARD officials during the programme.
NABARD has sponsored Wadi (small orchard) project which support 500 farmers in developing litchi and cashewnut orchards in Noney for 7 years.
It also assists in strengthening the marketing infrastructure by constructing Rural Hut at Longsai (Nungsai) village under various grant funds.
The officials also appreciated the State Government for expressing concern in developing the district's infrastructure.
NABARD under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) assisted the State Government for building not only agricultural infrastructure such as Surface Irrigation Project at Awangkhul and Jongkaijang villages but also for building four Primary Health Care Sub-Centres at Awangkhul, Chaton (Tamei), Nurathen (Tamei) and Longchai (Tousem) villages.
The processing unit inaugurated yesterday will be shared amongst 7 women SHGs represented by 95 women members from Balongdai village on weekly basis.
