LED reading lamps distributed to six ADCs : Joykumar bats for electrification in hill areas via IREP

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh today distributed high efficiency LED reading lamps to six Autonomous District Council (ADCs) in a function held at Manipur Science Centre auditorium at Takyelpat, Imphal West .
The LED lamps were handed over to the CEOs of the six ADCs of Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Chandel, Senapati and Ukhrul districts .
Speaking at the function, Joykumar said that the new Government is committed to reach out benefits through various Departments up to the lowest level so that poorest of the poor can avail the benefits .
He said that although Department of Science & Technology is a small Department, it can play a major role in bringing a positive change in energy consumption .
In most of the hilly areas where electricity supply is yet to be given, people especially learning community have been facing a lot of inconveniences.
Keeping this into account, the Department has initiated a programme under Integrated Rural Energy Programme (IREP), 2016-17 to cover those areas, he said .
Asking the concerned officials to implement the programme effectively in the hilly areas, he appealed to the ADCs to select beneficiaries in accordance with the priorities which has to be given mostly to the learning communities .
The Deputy CM emphasised on the need to open science clubs and science hubs in the Sub-Divisional and block levels .
He asserted that various awareness programmes on science and technology should also be initiated to make people understand what science is all about and its implications in human lives .
Education of science and technology in right manner would prove helpful for a meaningful existence, he maintained .
The Deputy Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing construction works of Innovation Hub inside the complex of Manipur Science Centre .
Joint Secretary (Science & Technology) A Subash Singh said that it is a good step to help people mostly students in their learning.
Director (Science & Technology) E Ibocha Singh informed that a total of 4,950 LED reading lamps will be distributed under the programme to the beneficiaries .
The Department will try to introduce solar home lighting in the next financial year under the programme, he added .
Haokholal Hangshing Chairman, ADC, Sadar Hills also spoke on the occasion.
Chairman and Members of all six ADCs, Director (MASTEC) and other representatives attended the function among others.
