CAF & PD labourers stage protest

Expressing their resentments over non increase of daily wages, 61 handling labours of the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) have on Monday staged a sit in protest by handcuffing their hands in row with a rope at FCI grain storehouse, Sangaiprou.
During the protest, the general secretary of the CAF&PD Labourers Welfare Association Romendrajit Moirangthem has briefed the media that CAF&PD is a Govt department of Manipur and added that their daily wages is outdated with the present time.
He further allegedly charged that the authority of the concern department and also the contractors have forcibly used the labours.
In order to voice against the forcible use of the labours with minimum wage, the protest was staged today, he added.
Mentioning their charter of demand, they have demanded to provide higher wages and benefits in equivalent with the Food Corporation of India, the secretary revealed and further communicated that the protest will be continued until and unless their demand is fulfilled.
He further charged the use of the labours as bonded labours is violation of Labour Law.
And drawing the attention of the concern authority, he appealed the authority to stop the use of labours as robots expressing that the lablours are human being.
Romendrajit emotionally remarked that they have been working of the last many years with the meager amount of 38 paise per bag and further declared that the Govt of Manipur is responsible for any eventuality of the agitation.
It may be mentioned that their protest agitation was launched from Sunday.
