Imphal, February 05, 2011:
Street vendors plying their trades under BT Flyover and Maharani (hump) bridge side were evicted temporary this morning as they were considered to be obstacles for a tour by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and his better-half Landhoni Devi.
As formal allotment of plots at the Temporary Market shed began this morning, police personnel were spotted asking the street vendors to leave BT Flyover zone and Maharani bridge.
When enquired a police personnel on duty informed that the eviction was for a brief period as the route was supposed to be traversed by the CM and his MLA companion.
After passage of the VIPs the street vendors, most of them women folk from far off locations, were allowed to resume their normal chores.
Meanwhile, the first day of shifting of street vendors to the Temporary Market sheds passed off without any disturbance.
Street vendors, who previously occupied market sheds along Nagamapal and Sessions Court areas, were provided plots at the Temporary Market sheds from around 10 am today.
The plots were allotted to street vendors who were issued by trade license by Imphal Municipal Council authorities.
