Imphal, January 05 2011:
Different bodies have condemned the arrest of Sanaleibak daily's Editor Ahongshangbam Mobi, who is also the Spokesperson and Vice-President of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) .
Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) in a press release said that no group or individual must try to suppress the media as it is the fourth estate of democracy.
HERICOUN observed that media persons must also strictly follow the ethical values and must not indulge in any activity which may give bad impression to the general public.
Maintaining that detention of Mobi is unfortunate, HERICOUN demanded the Government for immediate release of the senior Editor.
Columnists' Forum Manipur has also expressed serious concern over the arrest of the AMWJU functionary.
The Forum in a press release said that it is unfortunate to detain a senior scribe without any reason.
The incident gives an impression that the present Government is trying to supress the voice of the fourth estate of democracy, it added.
