Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has condoled the death of seven persons in the devastating earthquake which rocked the State and measured 6.8 on Richter's Scale this early morning.
The earthquake which has its epicentre at Noney, Tamenglong district also left more than 70 persons injured.
Briefing media persons at his Babupara official residence this afternoon, Gai- khangam said that the tragic natural phenomenon killed three persons in Imphal district and two each in Imphal East and Senapati districts.
Altogether 39 persons were injured in Imphal West district and they are undergoing treatment in RIMS.
Nine persons who belong to different places of Imphal East district too were injured and they have been brought to JNIMS.
Four persons were injured in Tamenglong district and they are being treated at Noney PHC.
At the impact of the earthquake, Imphal Keithel shed numbers 2 and 3 developed cracks while the boundary wall of Loitang Khunou Spinning Mill collapsed.
Houses of Moirangthem Gopal of Keishampat Leima-jam Leikai and RK Bhorot of Dewlahlane collapsed.
The ground floor of BSNL building and the New Secretariat building developed cracks.
The earthquake created large cracks on Minuthong (bridge) following which the bridge was closed to public since 6 am today.
A portion of Nambol Electricity Office wall caved in while cracks were seen in the pillars of the newly constructed Bishnupur market shed.
In Churachandpur, the YPA Hall was partially damaged.
With multiple cracks, the SDPO office of Nungba was also damaged.
Altogether 25 houses were damaged in Luangrang village of Khoupum sub-division, Tamenglong district.
Three houses of Tousem Khunou, six houses of Nungba and five houses of Tamenglong district headquarters were also damaged.
A large number of electric poles were also damaged at Awangkhul and Tupul villages.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed that concerned Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to open relief camps to provide necessary assistance to all earthquake affected victims.
