37 trained personnel in place to respond to disasters : CM

To respond to calamities like earthquake, flood, outbreak of fire in the State, there are a total of 37 personnel who have undergone training.
These personnel are trained for rescue operations in times of calamities .
This was stated by Chief Minister N Biren Singh while clarifying a policy cut motion moved by Opposition MLAs today in the ongoing Assembly session pertaining to Relief and Disaster Management .
A total amount of Rs 97,51,64,000 pertaining to four demands � Stationery and Printing (Rs 5,77,26,000), Relief and Disaster Management (Rs 50,75,48,000), Economics and Statistics (Rs 17,32,45,000) and Information Technology (Rs 23,66,45,000) were passed today .
The Chief Minister, who is also in-charge of Relief and Disaster Management Dept, further said that there is also a Coordination Committee with Chief Minister as the in-charge and Chief Secretary as the Member Secretary to oversee disaster management in the State.
Various departments like IFCD, PHED and Police are included in the Coordination Committee .
A State Executive body led by the Chief Secretary is also functional.
Disaster management programmes have been implemented time to time through DCs concerned at the district level, he said .
Necessary works have been taken up by the present Government during the recent flood.
Four MCS officers have been roped in to monitor the situation 24×7, the CM said .
Loss and damages caused by the flood have been compensated after they were assessed by the concerned DCs.
The Government has actively monitored the recent flood situation to prove that the Department is fully functional.
97 relief camps were opened at different flood hit areas and relief items like rice were provided adequately, he further said .
Some families whose houses were completely washed away by the flood were given immediate monetary relief.
The Government is considering ways and means for immediate payment of compensation to calamity-affected victims in order to avoid delay in doling out the relief amount or materials, he added .
He further said that since Manipur is prone to earthquake, the Government would consider the feasibility of formulating by-law or regulation for construction of buildings both in the valley and hills in order to mitigate circumstances in times of earthquake.
Opposition MLAs, Md Abdul Nasir, Md Fazur Rahim and K Ranjit moved the policy cut motion.
