Imphal, April 03 2016:
The North East Support Centre & Helpline (NESCH) has cautioned about some North East individuals plotting with some locals and blackmailing people from the North East region.
NESCH, in a statement, said that there seems to be an organised gang who is indulging in blackmailing North East people.
The modus operandi of the gang is to request for a lift from a single motorist and ask the helper for his/her contact number.
After acquainting, the individual would then invite the helper for outings or visit him/her and ask for monetary assistance.
When refused, the individual would accused the helper for showing objectionable images, false job promise, forcing into flesh trade or offering soft drinks laced with sedative.
The individual would demand negotiable amount within a stipulated time.
If failed to comply, the individual would lodge a false complaint in police station.
Though the IO would withdraw the charge after conducting proper inquiry, the false charge had already caused irreparable loss to the victim, NESCH said.
Reports of such incident have been increasing and is a matter of great concern, NESCH asserted while urging the North East people to stay alert.
