Imphal, July 01 2014:
Coordination Committee of Disabled Organisations has threatened to launch an intense agitation if the police frame charge only for molestation against the accused who allegedly raped a 13-year-old student of Government Ideal Blind School.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Committee Convenor Sapam Jashobanta said that apart from narrating her ordeal before the media by the victim, the Committee has evidences and witnesses which can prove that the incident was a rape case.
On the otherhand, some Government officials are trying to change the issue into a case of molestation, he added.
Informing that with the completion of investigation into the incident by Lamphel Police, the Investigating Officer (IO) has submitted his report to the higher officers, Jashobanta said and added that chargesheet is likely to be framed soon.
The Committee would monitor the trial process if police frame rape charge against the accused, Jashobanta said and added that the Committee would however launch an intense agitation if chargesheet sidelines rape charge and makes it appear like a molestation case.
Jashobanta further said that Social Welfare Director, Government Ideal Blind School Headmistress and school Superintendent had been put under suspension in the aftermath of the incident.
