Imphal, February 01 2014 :
Vehemently condemning the alleged racial chauvinism of the some of the mainland people in Delhi and the apathetic attitude of the Delhi police toward safeguarding the security of the ethnic mongoloid people in Delhi in the light of a NE youth reportedly being beaten to death in Delhi, the All India Tribal Students' Association, Delhi (AITSA) demanded the immediate suspension of the Station House Officer of the concerned PS where the incident took place.
Thousands of helpless men and women are working as sales girl, bartender, hotel boy, drivers etc for basic survival, and also thousands of students are searching for better education and employment opportu- nities in the capital city of Delhi.
Despite the undeniable facts of regular incidence of racial discrimination against people from the Northeastern region, no successive Government took any step to control the menacing racial chauvinism in the city, said a statement issued by AITSA.
The recent brutal incident of attacking a 19 year old student Nido Tainam from Arunachal Pradesh and taking the victim back to the spot of the incident instead of taking the injured boy to Hospital by the Delhi police shows how much the life of a citizen from the Northeast region actually worth in Delhi, it stated.
Moreover, the alleged detention of only three attackers while sparing the shopkeepers, who extorted Rs 7000 for accidentally breaking a glass cupboard in his shop, is a self evidence of the connivance of the Delhi police with the local goons, who are likely to be police informers, the AITSA statement said.
K Zou, social activist and president of AITSA also expressed grave concern on the exclusion of NE people from the Indian mind-set even after 65 years of independence.
When several local people were involved in the crime, how can only three persons are arrested under 302 IPC, and section 3 (10) of Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST, when there are series of sections of the IPC to book the culprits, it questioned while expressing apprehension that the case could be diluted in a similar manner like the case of Reingamphy from Murnika, Daulakuan gang rape case and several other heinous crimes against people from the Northeast region which were disposed off by the court on the ground of lack of evidence, legality and technically.
It is high time for the leaders and elected representatives from the NE region to awake from their narrow outlooks and find a lasting solution to the endless ordeals of the people of NE in the mainland cities.
Such heinous crime did not spare whether some belongs to an influential/ Minister/wealthy families etc, it said.
