The two-month-old baby girl, who was found abandoned at Jiri Supermarket on September 25 last, will be taken care by the Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA) if her parents fail to come forward to accept her within two months.
Speaking to reporters, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Imphal East Legal cum Probation Officer Chongtham Roshan Kha-Nganba said that Jiri police rushed the infant to CHC Jiribam for medical treatment after locals informed about the incident to them.
A lady Constable of Special Juvenile Unit Police have been looking after the infant since then, he said.
The baby was brought from Jiribam to Imphal by a police team led by SDPO and Special Juvenile Police Officer 4 pm yesterday.
After giving treatment at RIMS hospital, the baby was handed over to the officials of District Child Protection Unit, Imphal East.
Child Welfare Committee Imphal East Chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar urged the public to hand over infants to SSA's instead of abandoning them.
SSA manager coordinator Th Roshan said that they have named the baby as Baby Asha.
She would be kept under SSA's care if her parents fail to come forward to accept her, he said.
