Imphal, January 27 2018:
"Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high" these proverbial lines christened by Rabindranath Tagore aptly summarises the epochal change in the remote belt of Chandel District/ Manipur as the inhabitants of this remote belt joined Assam Rifles in overwhelming numbers during the 69th Republic Day Celebrations.
It may be of interest to note that just a couple of months back, the insurgent groups had attempted to lay ambush on troops of 4 Assam Rifles in the Sajik Tampak valley which led to significant reversals not only in terms of casualties to the terrorists, but also that they failed to find any support of the locals.
In a poignant moment for the Assam Rifles Battalions at Sajik Tampak, the 69th Republic Day celebrations started with a message delivered by Head of all village Chiefs of the Sajik Tampak valley area.
Almost capturing the essence of 'Republic', the young children and students of St Mary's school joined merry-making and gave a mesmerising performance.
Apart from the customary flag hoisting and singing of National Anthem, the euphoria of celebrations concluded with singing of the National Song "Vande Matram" .
The other battalions along the Joupi and Sehlon area too were enjoined by the local populace in showing their patriotic indulgence.
Various events like volley ball matches and speeches were held to keep the celebrations alive by the Assam Rifles personnel under the aegis of IGAR (South).
Arrangements were also made at various Assam Rifles Company basis for the local participants to watch the, 'live telecast' of the Republic Day Parade held at 'Rajpath in Delhi' Such unbridled and joyous participation, particularly by the young children of these far-flung areas spells a promising hope for the future.
