Twin blasts rock R-Day eve

Imphal, January 27 2017:
Despite tight security arrangement made for Republic Day celebration, suspected underground cadres triggered two powerful blasts one after another in different parts of the State yesterday.
Reports said the first blast took place on the western side of Manipur College a few distance away from Chinga Assam Rifles COB under Singjamei police station, Imphal West district.
The explosion believed to be caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) occured soon after the march past parade held as part of the State level Republic Day celebration at 1st Manipur Rifles ground at around 8.20 am.
Some portions of the brick wall of the college were shattered in the blast.
Soon after the blast, a large number of security personnel led by OC Imphal West commando, T Pao and bomb expert teams arrived at the spot to take stock of the incident.
ccording to reports, the second explosion took place in front Aryan Furniture house situated a few distance away from Mantripukhri CRPF camp under Heingang police station, Imphal West district.
No one was injured in the twin bomb blasts.
A case has been taken up in the police station concerned in connection with the incident, it added.
