The office of the Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Range Imphal, celebrated the 159th Income Tax Day, at Income Tax complex at Lamphelpat yesterday.
Hodam Gyaneshwar Singh, International Badminton referee, Moirangthem Inao Singh, well known writer, director and producer, K Sarjubala Devi, world youth boxing champion, Ng Joseph Gangte, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax and M Joychandra Singh, IRS, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, attended the event as the presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Ng Joseph Gangte highlighted the contributions of the tax payers in Nationbuilding and mentioned that income tax was levied from July 24, 1860 .
This year, the Income Tax Department has completed 159 years, he said, requesting the public to be more tax compliant.
Hodam Gyaneshwar Singh, who is also a retired Office Superintendent of Income Tax Office, Imphal, gave emphasis on assessee-friendly tax office so as to make the public feel more comfortable while approaching the income tax officials.
On the other hand, Moirangthem Inao Singh talked about the tax imposed by kings and other administrators in the past.
As a part of the celebration, a tree plantation programme and awareness programme on income tax were also held.
A tableau depicting various contributions of the Income Tax Department was also flagged off.
