Imphal, September 24 2009:
Following the closure of schools in Manipur particularly in the valley area by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and endorsed by other influential organisations like Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) and Kangleipak Students Assn (KSA) as part of showing solidarity to the ongoing 'mass movement' spearheaded by Apunba Lup demanding the resignation of Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh, the Ministry for Peace and Development ( MPD-NEI ) has made a fervent appeal not to disturb the academic atmosphere.
Chairman of MPD-NEI Ashang Kasar said that educational institutions should be left alone in the larger interest of the learning communities.
Highlighting the hardship faced by those students' community staying in rented houses and their parents toiling hard to send money for their wards in Imphal from far-flung areas of the state, the MPD-NEI said that these poor students from backward areas are keeping hard to afford the daily expenses and rental fees while waiting for the schools to open again.
Ashang Kasar explained that a day wasted is so much for these poor students whose parents and guardians sending money for these students even though they are finding difficulty to keep the home fire burning.
Keeping this fact in mind, MPD-NEI appeals the AMSU and others to consider on humanitarian ground by allowing educational institutions to resume normal classes.
