Imphal, March 24 2013 :
In pursuance of their demands for inclusive development of all communities, the executive council of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) held a consultative meeting with its constituent units at Churachandpur College on 23rd March and resolved to launch series of agitations including closing down of national projects in all tribal inhabited areas in the state.
Announcing this in a statement signed by its Information & Publicity Secretary Mikah Kamei, ATSUM said that if the government fails to respond to the demands, it would be constraint to impose even economic blockade.
However, considering the festive mood in anticipation of Yaoshang, the exact date of agitations would be announced afterward.
Furthermore, ATSUM asserted that deletion of Additional English subject from the curriculum of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur is against the interest of the students belonging to tribal communities whose mother tongues have not yet been recognised as they would be forced to offer Meetei Mayek.
