Indo-Naga solution at hand : VS Atem

Retired Lt Gen of the NSCN (IM) VS Atem, who is also a member of collective leadership, today said that the time has come for the Nagas to rejoice and live as one because the Indo-Naga peace dialogue is at the final stage of being resolved honourably.
VS Atem said this while speaking as the chief guest of the function to commemorate 50 years of "The torching of Ngainga village" Ukhrul by the Indian security forces in 1966 .
Speaking about the incident which occurred fifty years back, Atem said that he and NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah were involved in the war against the Indian security forces and added that they were forced to vacate the two outposts because of limited forces.
Convener Paul Muinao in his keynote address recalled and narrated how Ngainga village had endured all types of hardship while defending and protecting the rights of the Nagas for self determination.

29 village youths lost their lives while defending and protecting the rights of the Nagas, he said.
On December 23, 1966, the fierce battle was fought between the Indian security forces and the forces of Federal Govt of Nagaland.
The Indian security forces along with home guards attacked the Posaitarung and Ngainga outposts, where it witnessed the highest casualties in the war against the Nagas.
The Indian army then torched Ngainga village rendering the villagers homeless.
They torched granaries and atrocities were committed on innocent civilians as a repercussion.
In connection with the day Ngainga youth staged a skit.
Ngainga village headman Khangamkhai expressed gratitude and special thanks to all the neighbouring villages which had fed them and provided shelter.
An audio message from Th Muivah was also played.
Muivah hailed Ngainga one of the important villages of Nagas, which made all sacrifices for the cause of self determination and added that Ngainga village would be recorded in the history of the Nagas.
UADC chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung, ADC members, social organization leaders, headmen of neighbouring villages and NSCN (IM) officials attended the commemoration function at the village playground.
