Imphal, June 23 2016:
Ningombam (O) Indira, wife of former PREPAK Chairman Ningombam Nabachandra alias Nongdrenkhomba has asked the State Government whether all surrendered militants should be thrown to the gallows like her husband.
Speaking to media persons at their Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai residence today, Indira decried the way her husband was allowed to be shot dead inside the fortified complex of 7th Bn Manipur Rifles.
The daring murder has reduced to nought all the Government's attempts to bring the militants to the mainstream, she said.
The murder has evoked a serious question whether all the surrendered militants will be allowed to be killed one by one.
"After a long spell as an insurgent, my husband surrendered to the Government as he was craving a normal life.
When he was given quarters inside the 7th MR complex, we thought our lives would be peaceful", Indira said.
He could have stayed home if there should not be any protection inside the MR camp.
She went on to question as to why the State Government invited militants to surrender if it cannot protect them.
How the killers sneaked inside the camp and escaped after committing murder is another question.
These questions have exposed the carelessness of the Government and its security agencies, continued the bereaved wife.
The driver who had no fault was also shot dead.
Apart from seeking assistance, she urged the Government to book the killers.
She said that she would not claim her husband's body until the killers are booked.
Notably, 58 year old Nabachandra and his driver Leishangthem Sanjit (41) of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai were found shot dead at his quarters inside 7th MR complex last morning.
