NESO condemns border firing incident

Imphal, November 22 2022:
Condemning the firing incident along Meghalaya-Assam border this morning which took the lives of 6 and injured scores more, the North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has extended their condolences to the bereaved families who have been met with this tragic loss.
The incident took place in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya and West Karbi Anglong District of Assam, a statement has informed.
In a statement, NESO recalled the past incidents related to border disputes of Assam-Mizoram, Assam-Nagaland and Assam-Arunachal Pradesh which illustrates the pain and suffering of border residents.
NESO also strongly urged upon all State Governments to be committed to solving this long pending problem once and for all and called for intervention of the Central Government in these dialogues if necessary.
Lastly, NESO further stressed upon all the indigenous people that this issue is not an ethnic issue but a border dispute which the respective State Governments are duty bound to solve.
It may be noted that NESO comprises of the Khasi Students' Union (KSU), All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students' Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Garo Students' Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) representing eight major students movement in the seven North Eastern states.
