Imphal, September 22 2022:
Plans are afoot to set up hydromet observation stations at three locations of Kamjong district under the Government of India's Central Water Commission.
Sources informed that hydromet observation stations would be set up at the confluences of Sanalok River and Numbalok River, Maklang River and Tuyung-bi River and Taretlok.
The hydromet observation stations which would be set up by the Central Water Commission under the Ministry of Jal Shakti would collect data/information on daily rainfall, river water discharge, siltation, water quality, evaporation, temperature and humidity.
Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo, Central Water Commission Chief Engineer Reading Shimray and senior officials of Water Resources Department would visit the three sites selected for installation of hydromet stations tomorrow.
It is said that no hydel project can be taken up without data/information co-llected by hydromet stations.
Notably, NHPC engineers and MLA K Leishiyo went to Taretlok a few years back with the intention of taking up a hydro power project there.
But the plan was dropped as necessary data on hydrology and rainfall could not be obtained from any relevant department of the State Government, said the sources.
