Imphal, September 22:
A 10 day long Youth March organised by the Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) under the banner to save the identity of the indigenous people and to bring about a prosperous and peaceful nation was flagged off today.
More than 300 youths are participating in the Youth March.
The March which will cover Senapati, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts was flagged off from Andro by general secretary of Mapi Council Bimol at 10.15 am.
From Andro the marchers reached Machengpat, Theiyom village, Nongpok Heirok, Nongdam, Nongpok Kakching and then Nongren before halting at Happy Land village in Senapati district.
After sharing a light refreshment with the villagers of Happy Land, the marchers headed towards Yaingangpoki after passing through Chingnungkhok, Tellou, and Nongada Thongkhong.
From Yaingangpokpi the volunteers reached Laijang where they will hold tonight.
The marchers will set off from Laijang tomorrow and head towards Nongada, Lamlai, Pungdongbam and Sekta before halting at Sagolmang for the night.
The Youth March which will cover about 60 kms is being led by MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal and Mapi Council general secretary Bimol.
Speaking to reporters, Kangleipal and Bimol said that after Manipur which was formerly a sovereign kingdom in South East Asia was merged into the Indian Union, the unique identity of the nation is getting blurred day by day.
Moreover, the continuous influx of people from outside the State has also been threatening the distinct indigenous culture and tradition of the land, they asserted.
On the other hand, a large number of youths have fallen into the jaws of narcotics and chemical drugs.
In such a situation reflecting a bleak future of the State, it is imperative to unite youths of the present generation and this is the basic objective of the Youth March, said Kangleipal.
