Imphal, June 20 2018:
CPI, Manipur State Council leaders during a protest meeting held today at Irawat Bhavan, here lambasted the BJP led NDA Government in the Centre, asserting that its tagged line "Sabke Sath, Sabke Vikash" has only turned into "Corporate Ke Sath, Amir Ke Vikash" with the introduction of economic policies which are in favour of corporate houses and billionaires.
The leaders also alleged that the NDA Government has been trying to convert India into a Hindu homeland while pointing out that the attempt to introduce Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, which seeks to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955 to provide citizenship to migrants, from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis or Christians is one such attempt as the number of the Hindu immigrants from these countries is quite enormous.
They decried that the Central Government has been trying to push the State into a chaotic situation by concealing the contents of the Framework Agreement despite vehement demands to reveal them.
The protest meeting was held against the price hike of diesel and petrol, proposed formation of Naga Territorial Council and Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.Speaking at the occasion, CPI, Manipur State Council member Dr M Nara asserted that the poor people in the State and the country as a whole have been reeling under the adverse impacts of the economic policies introduced by the NDA Government in favour of the corporate houses and millionaires.
He pointed out that the prices of petrol and diesel as well as other essential commodities have surged to an unprecedented level all over India while alleging that the NDA Government is working in the interest of the corporate people as they (corporate people) are their financers/investors in election.
The price of crude oil in the international market has declined and Cuba has fixed the prices of petrol at Rs 19 per litre (in Indian currency) by introducing a laymen friendly taxation system, he informed and asked why the Government in India cannot do so.
Noting that the Government is also trying to introduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 which is based on granting citizenship to immigrants following certain religions, Nara contended that the Bill is against secularism.
He then decried the Central Government's obdurate refusal to disclose the contents of Framework Agreement it signed with NSCN (IM) .
The Central Government has only multiplied deep apprehension among the people of Manipuri, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by keeping the contents of the agreement a closely guarded secret.
He declared that CPI will always stand against any policy or decision taken by the Central Government if it is going to harm the State in any way and conveyed that the National Executive Committee meeting of CPI has already decided to stand against formation of Naga Territorial Council apart from demanding withdrawal of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.The veteran CPI leader informed that mass movement against the misdeeds of the NDA Government and Jatha (a movement to highlight the failure of the Government) will be held all over India from August 1 to 14 and in September this year respectively.
Many other leaders including CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar and the party's assistant secretary K Surchand too spoke during the protest meeting.
