Thoubal, November 19 2020:
Sero-survey to know the extent of COVID-19 infections will start at Lilong Assembly Constituency while that of Wangjing-Tentha will start from November 21 .
A sero-survey involves testing of blood serum of a group of individuals and this will be used to monitor trends in prevalence of the novel coronavirus, or SARS-COV-2, infection at the district level, while in this case it will be at the
Constituency level .
The sero surveys were necessitated by the by-elections to the two Constituencies held on November 7 which increased chances of COVID-19 infections among the people.
Two separate meetings on sero-surveys at the two Constituencies were held at the conference hall of Thoubal district Deputy Commissioner's office today in presence of MLA Y Antas Khan and MLA Paonam Brojen.
The meeting with regard to Lilong Assembly Constituency chaired by MLA Y Antas Khan decided to launch sero-survey at Khekman tomorrow.
The second meeting with MLA P Borjen decided that the sero-survey will begin at Wangjing and Sapam on November 21.Deputy Commissioner N Bandana said complete sero-survey of one Constituency will take at least six days.
The survey is targeting to cover at least 500 people per day.
At least four medical teams will conduct the surveys, she said.
She also appealed people of the Constituencies to voluntarily take part in the surveys.
Chief Medical Officer of Thoubal, SDOs of Lilong and Thoubal and other district level officers attended the meeting.
It may be noted that a similar survey started yesterday at Wangoi where by-election was held on November 7 .
The testing was done on one person per household and as many as 95 persons were found positive for coronavirus on the first day of the survey.
