Imphal, May 18:
The Principal Seat of Gauhati High Court has today fixed May 25 for hearing the final arguments of Thangjam Manorama case.
On the same day, the Court will also hear the main case as well as the other three related Misc cases filed by different parties.
Today, the Court partially heard one of the three Misc applications filed by the family members of the deceased praying for making public the Upendra Probe findings and to issue a directive to the State for taking up necessary steps to punish the guilty security personnel involved in the killing of the 32 year old woman.
The Misc filed jointly by the bereaved mother and younger brother of the deceased also sought to entertain them as respondents in the main writ petition while contesting the same for doing justice to the victim.
The main writ petition was filed by the Assam Rifles authorities challenging the legality of the State Government in instituting an Inquiry Commission against the Central forces.
On November 22, 2004, retired Judge C Upendra, who is heading the Commission, submitted his findings to the Government.
But the latter could not table it on account of an earlier verdict passed by the Principal Seat of the Court on the main petition.
In compliance with another interim ruling of the same Court, the State sponsored probe panel examined AR witnesses in camera at the premises of Central Jail, Imphal.
It may be recalled here that the bullet riddled body of Manorama was found in the morning of July 11, 2004 near Yaipharok Maring village after she was picked by troopers of 17 Assam Rifles from her Bamon Kampu residence the previous night.
