Ukhrul, September 16 2020:
The All Manipur Hill Districts MGNREGS Employees Association (AMHDMEA), Ukhrul branch launched an indefinite cease work strike from today onward in support of its demand for service regularisation.
The Ukhrul branch, secretary YL Ramkui briefed the local media about the problems and hardships endured by them after they were appointed as MGNREGS staffs of the district.
The hill districts MGNREGS employees are compelled to launch indefinite cease work strike against the State Government to protest and demand for regularisation similar to that of the counterpart valleys under MGNREGS Act, who were regularised in 2016 stated YL Ramkui.
He went on to mention that the hill districts MGNREGS employees had approached and highlighted their issues and problems to high ranking officers of the state who verbally informed them that process for service regularisation file has been already submitted to Rural Development Minister for enhancement.
However, nothing has been done so far, in spite of their persistent demand for service regularisation.
Ramkui also informed, last year in a cabinet meeting held at Ukhrul, the visiting CM had assured during the interaction with local media that in case of precedent report of absorbing MGNREGS employees, the same treatment would be followed.
Yaoreithing mentioned that a memorandum demanding their service regularisation was submitted on August 22, 2020 to the State Government before they began their cease work strike.
However, the Government's failure to address their issues has let the hill districts MGNREGS employees to take extreme steps and demonstration protest.
The Ukhrul district MGNREGS employees expressed their strong disappointment against the Government asking why only valley MGNREGS employees were regularised.
It might be mentioned that 34 staffs had been recruited under MGNREGS as technical assistance and MIS (computer operation) for all blocks of Ukhrul and Kamjong district.
With shortage of staff in the District Administration office, prolong agitation might hinder in the normal functioning of the office, as the MGNREGS staffs were looking into the affairs of PMAY, online certificates updation, MGNREGS etc.
Yaoreithing further informed that after two days of cease work, a meeting will be held at Imphal on September 18 to chalk out further course of action in case the State Government fails to settle the issue in time.
