Imphal, October 14 2017:
As a part of its 'National Black Day' observance, the CorCom has announced total shut down all over Manipur (Kangleipak) from October 14 midnight till 6 pm of October 15 .
A press release issued by CorCom media coordinator Ksh Yoiheiba appealed to all the people to suspend all daily activities including movement on roads, business activities, officials duties, games and sports events and all forms of entertainment programmes during the total shut down so as to make the National Black Day observance complete .
However, medical services, emergency services, religious activities and media would be exempted from the purview of the total shut down.
Since the past many years, CorCom has been observing October 15 as the National Black Day challenging the forced merger of Manipur into the Indian Union on October 15, 1949 after Maharaja Bodhachandra was forced to sign the Manipur Merger Agreement under duress at Shillong .
Soon after the lapse of British paramountcy, Manipur enacted its own Constitution and set up an elected Government even before the Indian Constitution was enacted .
However, after Maharaja Bodhachandra was forced to sign the Manipur Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949 using treacherous methods and under duress, Manipur was annexed into the Indian Union, it alleged .
But the people of the land oppose the Manipur Merger Agreement and they have been resisting the alleged annexation .
Several rounds of public conventions held across the State unanimously agreed that the Manipur Merger Agreement was an 'annexation' and legally invalid .
The ongoing liberation movement is a legitimate movement of the people .
Asserting that freedom is development and progress, it called upon all the people of Manipur to join and support the liberation movement.
Only a collective movement can determine the future of Manipur, it added.
