Imphal, April 13 2017:
As a part of its campaign to protect cultivable lands and promote organic farming in the State, Loumee Sinmee Apunba Lup (LOUSAL) will be organising a cycle rally on April 16 .
Informing this in a press meet held at its office located at Thumbuthong Brahmapur Guru Aribam Leikai today evening, LOUSAL general secretary Maibam Sunil recalled that the organisation had organised a four-day long cycle rally in different parts of the State in November, 2011 carrying the message of protection of paddy lands and promotion of organic farming.
He observed that it will be a great loss for all the people if the fertile arable lands of the State are not protected.
He maintained that the organisation has been launching various forms of agitation to save and protect cultivable lands of the State.
Even though Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 had been implemented in the State, the State Government is neglecting the provisions under the Act, he pointed out.
Saying that the NDA Government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is placing priority on organic farming, Sunil expressed hope that BJP-led Govenrment in the State will address the woes of farmers and promote organic farming in the State.
He also hoped that the State Government will implement Land Use Act in the State in the interest of farmers.
LOUSAL convenor Khumujam Ronex Khaba who was present at the press meet informed that the April 16 cycle rally will start from Kangla Lanban and end at Sana Konung after passing through Bishnupur and Thoubal.
He said that awareness programme on the subject was held at Lamlai Chalou, Koutruk and Kwaksiphai ahead of the rally.
Similar awareness programme will also be held at Wabagai on the day.
Around 100 people will take part in the rally to be assisted by doctors, paramedical personnel and mechanics, he added.
He appealed to the people to extend support to the cycle rally.
