Kangpokpi, May 12 2016:
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has today urged the State Government to reconsider its decision to send delegations of all political parties to Delhi to press for conversion of the three Bills into Acts.
Expressing deep concern over the development after the all political parties' meeting resolved to send a delegation to Delhi on May 16, the KIM said that any individual from Kuki community who holds important position in any political party does not represent the political interest of the Kuki people.
KIM further noted that political parties in Manipur such as Congress, BJP, Trinamool, CPI, MPP, etc are parties constituted by all sections of Manipur people both valley and hills.
As such, they cannot represent the valley alone.
Shokholun Mate, Lhangsam, (information secretary), Kuki Inpi Manipur stated that the 3 Bills were passed by the State Assembly on August 31, 2015 without referring it to the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) in total violation of Constitutional procedure.
As such, it was seen as 'anti-tribal' Bills by the hill people.
He also alleged that there has been no attempt on the part of the State Government to solve the issue amicably.
Rather the State Government is supporting the demand of JCILPS which make fresh attempt to bulldoze the issue by harnessing the support of the various political parties.
"Such attempt is considered totally biased and sectarian in nature and is treated as an appeasement policy of the Government towards the valley people", asserted KIM Lhangsam while conveying its aspiration to resolve the 3 Bills issue amicably so as to avoid further escalation of tension and violence.
KIM further said that it considers the proposed delegation of political parties to Delhi inappropriate since it does not represent the interest of the tribal people with regard to the three Bills.
Therefore, the proposed mission to Delhi be cancelled and ways and means be explored to settle the issue amicably by stakeholders concerned, he added.
