The valedictory function of the 15-day Low Cost Community-based Detoxification Camp organized by the Nirvana Foundation was held today at the Khabeisoi Primary School.
The 15-day long camp was organised in collaboration with Khabeisoi Youth Library and Sporting Association (KHYLSA) and Heptagon Youth Club (HYC) and supported by the Joint UN Programme and Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) .
Former Pradhan of Khabeisoi Gram Panchayat, Md Nazim was the chief guest while the headmaster of Khabeisoi Primary, Md Ahao Rahman was the president of the function.
The guests of honour were Ibecha, Member of the Khabeisoi GP and Dhyanchand, Secretary of New Generation.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of Nirvana Foundation, Sobhana Sorokhaibam narrated that the camp was organised in order to make drug users become good citizens of the land.
She said that the participants of the detoxification camp must not be isolated from the society, and no social stigma should be attached to them either.
She said that very member of the locality must give cooperation to them.
Salam Goutam, Consultant and Technical Adviser of Nirvana Foundation said that without any serious assurance to themselves that they must not go back to using drug after the detoxification programme, the camp would not have much impact.
He appealed to the campers to resolve not to use drugs ever again like they had done during the 15-day long de-addiction treatment camp.
Goutam also appealed to the campers to make a decision of their own to shun the habit of using drugs.
The detoxification camp was held from January 30 to February 12 while keeping in mind the existing risk reduction initiatives for injecting drug users which requires immediate strengthening.
It aimed to reach out drug treatment facilities to users populating in the far flung areas.
About 25 clients participated in the camp.
