Imphal, October 11 2017:
50 out of the 75 members of the Congress Electoral College have submitted a memorandum to former Union Minister and the Returning Officer of the president election, JD Seelam, to keep TN Haokip as the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) .
According to a source inside the Electoral College, who did not wish to be named, the members have also warned of possible conflict inside the Congress party if the RO fails to respect their demand or sends a fabricated report to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) .
The source pointed out that a meeting was held on October 9, after four to five important members of the Electoral College expressed the possibility of ex-CM Okram Ibobi allegedly collaborating with the RO to appoint him (Ibobi) as the president of MPCC without any election process .
It claimed that if an election is indeed held, former Minister, Moirangthem Okendro has a big chance of becoming the party's president.
But after the RO attempted to adopt a one line resolution, the members submitted the memorandum demanding to retain TN Haokip as the MPCC president .
Moirangthem Okendro has also backed TN Haokip to continue as the president and if the RO fails to heed the demand of the members or if he sends a fabricated report to the AICC, there is a big chance the 50 members who signed the memorandum might leave the party, the source added .
RO, JD Seelam, left Imphal for Delhi, yesterday.
