Houses vandalised

Imphal, November 10 2011:
Following the death of a VDF personnel in a scuffle, two houses were vandalised by irate locals at Takyel Khongbal Mayai Leikai of Imphal West district under Lamphel Police Station today.
The scuffle occurred at around 8 pm of November 8 at the locality.
The deceased, RK Robert (22) s/o RK Khelen of Takyel Khongbal Mayai Leikai was rushed at JNIMS Hospital after he was seriously injured in the incident.
However, he succumbed to his injuries at around 1 pm yesterday.
According to Robert's father, RK Khelen, his son was called out by some persons that night.
As soon as Robert went out, they heard a sound that seemed like a heavy object coming in contact with a body, he added.
Khelen further said that as he went out to check what was going on outside, Robert was found lying unconscious with five-six persons beating him up constantly at the residential complex of his neighbour Khundrakpam Shamu.
He added that one Ahongshangbam Ranbir, relative of Shamu, was also involved in the incident.
Khelen further said that the matter has been informed to the Lamphel Police Station and Robert's body would not be claimed until the culprits are arrested.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of local people, club and meira paibees, held last night, decided to permanently expel the family of Khundrakpam Shamu from the locality.
According to an information received late at night, two houses belonging to Khundrakpam Shamu and his relatives which were vandalised in the morning were burnt to ashes.
