Imphal-Jiribam highway cut off, repairing work on

Imphal, August 10 2017:
Landslides, sinking of road surface and development of huge cracks at different points have cut off Imphal-Jiribam highway .
It is said that the landslides, sinking of road surface and huge cracks were triggered by heavy rainfall .
The highway has been cut off since last night after a portion of the highway's surface sank which was aggravated by landslides and appearance of huge cracks at a place about 2.5 Kms short of Barak Bridge from Imphal .
It is reported that the landslide swept away a truck injuring the driver .
The incident happened at around 4.30 am today near Barak Bridge, about 17 Kms short of Nungba from Jiribam .
Truck driver Sane Mohamad (28) from Silchar, Assam who was transporting cement was injured in the incident .
Heavy landslides cut off the highway since 3 pm today at another point about 3 Kms beyond Barak Bridge .
With the highway cut off at two points, a large number of loaded trucks heading toward Imphal from Jiribam have been stranded .
NHIDCL has been carrying out repairing works at both the damaged points .
The second point beyond Barak Bridge may be restored by tomorrow morning but it may take sometime to repair and restore the first point .
Nonetheless, NHIDCL has been working hard to repair both the damaged sections and restore the highway by tomorrow, informed a source.
