Fitting tributes paid to Samarendra on 16th martyrdom day

The 11th Arambam Samarendra memorial lecture was held on the 16th martyrdom anniversary of the leader at Lamyanba Shanglen today.
The Morung Express founder Editor Alongba Longkumer delivered a lecture on the topic, 'Frameworks for a shared future : A way forward on democracy, integration, peace'.
Retired Professor of Philosophy of Manipur University, Soyam Lokendrajit presided over the function organised by Arambam Samarendra Trust, Imphal.
On the other hand, Arambam Samarendra Trust observed the 16th martyrdom of the leader at the ground of Social Standard Club, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai as well.
Khurai AC MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, Manipur University Professor Lokendra and Morung Express Editor Along Longkumer graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Ng Bijoy while speaking at the function said that people can understand Samarendra's dreams and visions for Manipur from his books, songs and dramas.
It is known from his books that Manipur is a land which had economic and political independence, Bijoy said.
Offering floral tributes to Samarendra's statue, organising competitions on Mukna, Kang, Cheibi and symposium were the main highlights of the observation.
Pari Imom Kanba Lup, Imphal East organised a painting competition Lamlong Higher Secondary School as part of the observation.
Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur also observed the day at Nungshikol Park, Chana today.
Film Forum Manipur Chairman Laimayum Surjakanta, PAWF founder member Ngathem Rabichandra and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union secretary Jit Ningomba graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively, said a statement.
L Surjakanta said that Manipuri films are today known to the world due to the efforts and hard works of the pioneers of Samarendra's time.
Arambam Samarendra was the script writer of the first Manipuri film, 'Matamgi Manipur', which was released on April 9, 1972, he said.
Jit Ningomba said that Hijam Irabot and Arambam Samarendra were true patriotic writers.
Their contributions towards the society must not be forgotten by the current generation, he said.
PAWF secretary Rakesh Naorem and film critic Rajmani Ayekpam also spoke at the function.
Later, Chongtham Subadani, Hawaibam Jandho, Nongmaithem Noren, Nabakumar Oina, N Khamba Luwang, Ch Ranbir, Anamika Heirangkhongjam and Thounaojam Momota presented patriotic poems at the function, added the statement.
